Childish Gambino // CAMP. This album is loud and large, and generously self aware. It plays like a stream of consciousness. And it’s fitting that a confessional on the last track ties it all together. It’s about telling the truth, about telling everyone everything. Saying, “so I learned to cut out the middle man, make it all for everybody, always. Everybody can’t turn around and tell everybody, everybody already knows.” In that short cut, Donald Glover offers a hint of wisdom beyond the fantastic ostentation of an everyday entertainer.
This one called Sunrise portrays the frenetic energy that a multifaceted person such as Glover seems to possess with ease. To wake up and say: ”While they be sleeping I be on to that new shit!” He’s new and fresh right now, and in complete control of his future. So we’ll see if Bonfire and the rest of these tracks are the start of some sustained and legitimate blaze, or just a puff of smoke that we all saw one day, but then forgot about as it disappeared into the atmosphere.
